Uh Oh, Bretman Rock Spills On His Not-So-Nice Encounter With Vanessa Hudgens

Fact: Bretman Rock isn't one to hold back when it comes to spilling the tea. And that still holds when it comes to discussing underwhelming celebrity encounters. The social media superstar recently opened up on the Sweet or Savory Podcast, hosted by Filipino-American couple AJ Rafael and Alyssa Navarro, revealing the origin of his apparent dislike for actress Vanessa Hudgens.

When asked about his "most disappointing celebrity encounter," Bretman didn't hesitate. "Okay. VH… Vanessa Hudgens," he said bluntly, adding, "I don't like her."

According to Bretman, the drama all started at a pre-pandemic Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, where both he and Vanessa were guests of a vegan gummy vitamin brand. While picking up his tickets, Bretman spotted Vanessa chatting with the brand's CEO—a friend of his. "I was trying to get his attention, not hers, and she looks at me and tries to hide," he recalled.

He also threw in a little pop culture reference for flavor. "I was always Team Sharpay. Let's just get that out of the way," he joked, referencing High School Musical's Sharpay Evans (played by Ashley Tisdale) versus Gabriella Montez (played by Vanessa) rivalry.

Bretman also shared that Vanessa had her assistant stand in front of her, seemingly to block him. "There's no reason for you to be hiding… we have the same pass," he said, emphasizing that they were both at the same event for the same reason. He kept it real: "Girl, you're not above me, I'm not under you. I'm Filipino... you can't even like your own people?"

While Bretman's tone was playful, it's clear the encounter left a mark. Fans have noted past instances where Bretman appeared to throw shade at Vanessa, including calling out her mispronunciation of "Palawan" during her stint as a Philippines tourism ambassador in 2023. He also famously pretended not to know her at the U.S. premiere of A Very Good Girl later that year.

The Internet quickly weighed in after Bretman's podcast confession, sparking the usual mix of reactions. Some fans said, "If Bretman openly expresses dislike towards someone… Imma believe him," while others argued, "This is not a valid enough reason to dislike someone…"
