She's ruled pageants, walked countless red carpets, and owned every "best dressed" list—and now, Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray is ready for something new: her first role as an actress.
Catriona officially makes her acting debut in The Loved One, the upcoming romantic drama that also marks the long-awaited reunion of Jericho Rosales and Anne Curtis, who were last paired together in Baler (2008) and Green Rose (2011). Catriona's reveal came via the film's newly released official trailer released on January 19.
Catriona Gray Makes Her Official Acting Debut In The Loved One
Shot largely in moody black-and-white and set to Cup of Joe's "Multo," the trailer sketches a romance defined by waiting, imbalance, and the things left unsaid. We're shown glimpses of Eric (portrayed by Jericho) and Ellie (portrayed by Anne) in their lighter moments to heavier emotional tension, culminating in the film's central question, flashed in soft pink text: Are you the lover or the loved one?
It's right after this that Catriona appears, playing what seems to be Eric's co-worker. Her scenes are brief but quite telling in the shared looks and easy conversations, making her a calm presence that could potentially be disruptive. The trailer keeps her role deliberately vague, but it's clear she matters to the story, and possibly to the emotional turning point of the film.
According to her label Cornerstone Entertainment, The Loved One marks Catriona's "much-awaited and deserved" acting debut. They also gave fans a first glimpse of Catriona on set, sharing teaser photos of her at an office.
Her handler Liz Alvarez echoed the excitement online in an Instagram Story, sharing that after years of turning down offers, they finally decided this was the right project to say yes to. "I have an actress, everybody!!!" she wrote.
Directed by Irene Emma Villamor, The Loved One premieres in Philippine cinemas on February 11—just in time to emotionally wreck us before Valentine's weekend.
