Does Jasmine Curtis-Smith Really Love Bagnet & BFF Tropes? Here's Her Real Take

Jasmine Curtis-Smith has been out here conquering unconventional, buzzworthy films. Sure, she's done her share of rom-coms—both straight and queer—and left her mark. But fans are curious: how does she choose her next roles? Is it all about bagnet and a best-friends-to-lovers trope on the side?
Funny question, right? But it's a legit concern posted from an online user on X (formerly Twitter). For reference, one of her standout roles to date is Pathy from I'm Drunk, I Love You. In the film, she was offered some bagnet—but plot twist—she's vegan. Then, in Baka Bukas, Jasmine's character Alex mentions steering clear of the usual crowd that eats and loves bagnet, LOL.
So, of course, we had to ask Jasmine about it when we met her at the Preview Ball 2025. When we mentioned that the Internet has picked up on the recurring bagnet-plus-best-friend combo in her films, she quipped, "I know, but I want tapa," nodding to Pathy's famous line. She laughed at our question and joked that maybe there's a multiverse of her characters out there—some with a serious bagnet fixation. 😂
But on a serious note, it's not bagnet that Jasmine looks for in a script. It's the overall message that it can convey to the audience. She knows how powerful films can be, and that’s exactly what she’s aiming for in every role.
"I'm very lucky if I can request to read the script in advance—if it doesn't require me to audition," she began telling Cosmo. "But usually, I look for films that have a message."
Jasmine further explained, "Not just a good story, but a message that we can learn from—whether it's a hardship in a family, whether it's our society, whether it's the political landscape. Maybe not always be super as is, pero I make sure na we can tell these stories in a way that can shed light on important stories or issues and values for our culture."

Jasmine Curtis-Smith stars in new Cinemalaya film, 'Open Endings'
With that, it's no surprise that Jasmine's starring in the upcoming Cinemalaya film, Open Endings. It's another sapphic film that's set to screen from October 3 to 12, 2025.
Jasmine stars alongside Janella Salvador, Klea Pineda, and Leanne Mamonong. It tells the story of four exes-turned-best-friends. They all navigate through love and friendship after one of them makes a life-changing decision for the group.
It's not Jasmine's first rodeo into queer films, but it was her first time working with the cast. In our brief chat with Jasmine, she shared how comfortable it was to work with the cast of Open Endings.
"Actually, we were very surprised that on the first day we all came together for the audition pa lang, we already gelled as a cast. And I think that was the clincher for the decision of making us the combination," Jasmine noted.
We get her point. Chemistry can make or break a film—and it's just as important as the story itself. After all, a great plot hits different when the cast's chemistry is off the charts.
"Maraming pinaghalo-halo na actors during the audition process," she disclosed before saying, "But I think when we did our improvisation scene, that was when everyone's personalities really shone. And I think doon nagkaintindihan na, we're all gonna get along just fine."
