Maymay Entrata Looks Back On How Her Late Mom Raised Them As A Single Parent

Grief comes in many ways—it doesn't go away, ever, especially when you've lost someone you've loved your whole life. But what eases grief at some point are the memories that we hold dearly with our loved ones. For Maymay Entrata, the memory of her visit to Japan was something that reminded her of how lovely her mother was.
On May 16, Maymay shared with the world that her mom, Lorna Entrata, has passed away after a two-year battle with cancer. Then, on June 10, Maymay posted a throwback photo with her mother. She recalls it as their very first day in Japan. ICYDK, Maymay's mom formerly worked in Japan to support their family back in the Philippines.
"I still remember this photo when my mother was so happy to take us out," she began telling their story. It was one of those days when their mom took them out for a walk and had ice cream as a prize.
"She told us that if we counted one thousand steps with her, we would get a prize at the finish line. So we started walking.. one count per step." Maymay said, "Our prize was ice cream. She bought it for us. And I can still perfectly remember how happy we were... how thankful we were." (Simple times!)
Then, she goes on to say how their mother tried to make ends meet by taking on multiple jobs in Japan. She was the image of selflessness and strength for Maymay, and it will always be that way.
"Later on, I learned that my mother never had her own car or any easy way to get around. She walked everywhere, every day, working multiple jobs just to provide for us. Those smiles of hers will forever stay in my mind. They will always remind me how strong of a woman she truly is—selfless, resilient, and full of unconditional love," she shared.
In an emotional and inspiring note, Maymay expresses admiration for all the single moms out there as well, who, just like her mom, worked tirelessly to provide a good life for their family.
"She didn't give us much in terms of material things, but she gave us everything that really mattered. And for that, I'll always be grateful. Sobrang miss ko na si Inay but may this memory bless you as it has blessed me. To all the single mothers out there—saludo po kami sa inyo," she concluded in her post.

Maymay may not be taking on lots of acting projects at the moment due to a lot of things. Though it's mainly because of her desire to focus on her music career, it's also her way of slowing down at the moment, for her family.

In an April 2025 interview with Star Magic, Maymay opened up about her current life situation. It might have been a secret to many, but for the past few years, Maymay has been spending time with her mom and grandmother, who at the time were both battling serious illnesses.
"[Si] Mama Ludy, nasa Cagayan de Oro siya ngayon. Yung treatment niya tuloy-tuloy pa rin for dialysis. Tapos, tsaka yung nanay ko rin. Sabay sila, pero mas malubha lang yung sa nanay ko," Maymay previously divulged.
Maymay admitted that her previous trips to Japan weren't actually for leisure, but were all for her mom who was residing there at the time. "Yung nanay ko, matagal nang may cancer. Almost two years na. At kaya pabalik-balik ako sa Japan. Tapos, ngayon, ang isa na lang sa pinakapinapasalamatan ko ay nakauwi siya two months ago," she shared a month before her mom passed away.
