Rachel Brosnahan Explains Why Her Lois Lane Is A "Superhero in Her Own Right"

Rachel Brosnahan is our newest Lois Lane, and she's proven to have given a fresh take on her character—who's been loved by many for so long.
Just days ago, the stars of the new DC Film Superman flew to Manila for their world tour. In a press conference, Rachel discussed her thoughts on how they've kept up with the times when it comes to molding Lois Lane in 2025.
"Lois is one of the characters who's evolved the most in the history of this comics—the way she looks has evolved, sometimes it's more about the relationships that she has, sometimes it's heavier on her role as a journalist," Rachel began explaining to the Manila press on June 20, 2025.
One of the most important facets of Lois Lane for Rachel and their writer-director James Gunn is Lois' journalism. As mentioned in the press con, Lois Lane is one of the most popular journalists in the history of comics.
For Rachel, Lois Lane is just as much a superhero as Superman—only her power lies in journalism. "I was really attracted to this version of the character because it feels equally weighted. You have a superhero who has superpowers, and you have this character who's a superhero in her own right," she declared.
She describes Lois as already strong, sharp, and unshakable, both as a journalist and as a person in the Superman universe. She's someone who can hold her own, think in advance, and reason her way through just about anything. But then, she meets Clark Kent, a.k.a. Superman—something she never saw coming.
Rachel furthered, "And just like Superman, she's not knocked off-balance easily; she can logic her way around just about anything. She's 10 steps ahead of everyone else. Then, along comes this thing that she couldn't have seen coming, that she can't logic her way out of, and it totally knocks her off her feet."
At this point of the press conference, Superman actor David Corenswet chimes in and says, "True love," bringing everyone in the room to laughter.
So aside from the fact that the "true love" aspect of Lois and Superman's dynamic didn't go unnoticed in the film, Rachel also paid attention to how Lois Lane looks in the present year. Because at the end of the day, she's not just Superman's lover, but a journalist and a person who's living her life to how she wants it to be.
"As far as her modern version, we talked about how she would look like today. What it means to show up at professionally to the office today, and what she could like as somebody who's always chasing her story to the ends of the Earth, how does she express herself through her clothes," she said during the press conference.

Somewhere along the way, David found the perfect moment to shout out Lois Lane’s “star reporter” status—and let’s just say, the way he said it at the press conference had everyone cracking up.
It came after a question about Clark Kent's role as a journalist—a superhero when he's not writing—and as a lover to fellow journalist Lois Lane. "There are versions of Clark Kent where he is really an incredible reporter, and sometimes is on Lois Lane's level or even more," David began in his response.
But before he could continue, the crowd started playfully pushing back. "Wait! Wait!" he exclaimed, before clarifying, "I don't think that’s the version that we were doing. In our version, Lois Lane is the star reporter." (Good to know, David! LOL!)
David went on to explain Clark Kent's approach to journalism: "He loves journalism. He loves the idea of journalism. But he's not a serious journalist—at least not yet—in the way that Lois is."

'Superman' Cast In Manila
On June 19, Superman cast David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, and DC Studios James Gunn and Peter Safran made their way to Manila and had a jampacked fan event. As expected, the Superman cast was welcomed with warmth and enthusiasm.
Hundreds of fans from the Philippines gathered to meet the newest Superman main cast and creators, with their Superman toys and comics, and everything that they wanted to get signed.
Yes, during the fan event, the cast and creators went up close and personal with some fans and signed (!) some collectibles—oh, it was truly a treat for the attendees!
They had a v short but sweet stay in the Philippines—it was the first time to visit the Philippines, too! They wrapped it up with the press day on June 20 that brought together media from across Southeast Asia. David, Rachel, and James were all so charming and radiated excitement for their film, which they enthusiastically shared with everyone present.
"This has been so wonderful. The whole time that we've been here. Everybody here has been so amazing. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We love you," James said as they concluded their time on the press con stage.
We can't wait to see Superman soon! Coming to theaters in the Philippines on July 9.
