From Swamp To The Stage: 'Shrek The Musical' Is Coming To Manila

Everyone's favorite ogre is leaving his swamp for the Manila stage—and we're definitely looking forward to it. Yep, Shrek The Musical will be live on stage from October 31 to at the Newport Performing Arts Theater in Pasay.

ICYMI, the award-winning 2008 Broadway musical got the green light (*wink wink*) for a local production! It will be brought to life by the Full House Theater Company, the theatrical production arm of Newport World Resorts. And ICYDK, you can thank them for the Filipino-led productions of Annie, The Sound of Music, and original musicals such as Bituing Walang Ningning and Ang Huling El Bimbo.

Let's peel this onion, shall we?

Shrek The Musical is everything you want if you're looking for a lighthearted and fun time at the theater. Aside from following the original film's storyline, we get more insight into Shrek, Fiona, Donkey, Lord Farquaad, and the fairytale-packed cast's innermost thoughts—which are expressed through song, ofc!

The musical was inspired by William Steig's book Shrek! as well as the beloved DreamWorks Animation film Shrek. There are some Easter eggs and nods to the sequels Shrek 2 and Shrek Forever After sprinkled throughout the show, too.

But perhaps more importantly, the Manila production will feature an all-Filipino cast. Leading the team are Jamie Wilson as Shrek, Krystal Kane as Fiona, Topper Fabregas as Donkey, Alfredo Reyes as Lord Farquaad, and Julia Serad as Dragon. Joining them is a vibrant ensemble of fairytale creatures from Gingy to Pinocchio to the Big Bad Wolf, each ready to bring a little mischief and lots of magic to the experience.
