NCT Winwin is one of the group's Chinese members who has captured fans' hearts with his visuals, vocals, and all-around talents. Throughout his career, he became part of multiple NCT subunits, including NCT 127, NCT U, and WayV.
The 28-year-old idol has spent more than a decade with his agency, SM Entertainment, including his years as a trainee. However, on July 8, 2026, the entertainment company officially announced Winwin's departure through a post on Weverse, stating that both parties had reached a mutual decision.
The short statement expressed gratitude for Winwin's hard work and fans' unwavering support throughout the years. "We sincerely thank him for the time we have shared together and wholeheartedly support him as he embarks on a new journey."

Following the announcement, Winwin penned a heartfelt letter to his fans on Instagram, reflecting on his journey as an SM artist. In Korean, he wrote, "Sometimes I look through old photos from years ago, and every single picture brings back countless memories and the stories behind them. There were certainly times when I was exhausted and days when I faced setbacks and hardships. But even more than that, what remains in my heart are the many moments filled with happiness, joy, and unforgettable emotions."
The letter also reflected a positive relationship between Winwin and the company, as he expressed his gratitude for the opportunities SM Entertainment gave him throughout his career.
"When I was still young and inexperienced, SM gave me the opportunity to debut as a member. They also gave me the chance to stand on stages around the world and meet all of you. From the very first moment I stepped on stage as an SM artist until now, I know I wouldn't be the person I am today without those experiences. And I never would have had the chance to meet the countless people who recognized me, supported me, and loved me."
Winwin is the second NCT member to leave SM Entertainment this year. ICYMI, Mark Lee departed from the company last April and went on a months-long hiatus before reportedly launching his own independent label and creative agency, Upper Room (UPRM Label).
Meanwhile, NCT's Thai member Ten also announced that he would be ending his contract with SM Entertainment last April, although the company clarified that he would continue his activities with NCT and WayV.
Currently, Winwin appears to be focusing on his acting career and is managed by Yuekai Entertainment for his individual activities in China. Over the years, he has starred in several Chinese dramas, including Sweet Games (2023), Snow Fall (2024), and Perfect Match (2025).
WayV recently won the "Most Popular Group of the Year" award at the Chinese Top Ten Music Awards, where remaining members Kun, XiaoJun, Hendery, and Yangyang accepted the award. In December 2025, the group also released their special winter album Eternal White, featuring seven tracks including "The Fifth Season," "Strange Tears," and "Love After Me." However, Winwin was unable to participate in the music video and some album promotions due to his ongoing projects in China.
As of writing, the members have yet to publicly share their thoughts regarding Winwin's departure. However, Czennies and WayZenNis continue to show their support for him as he begins a new chapter in his career.
