The 'Reply 1988' Cast Is Back For A 10-Year Reunion Special That's Dropping This Month

Can you believe it's been 10 years since Reply 1988 first had us crying, laughing, and obsessing over who would end up with whom? The tight-knit streets of Ssangmun-dong are calling again, and your favorite childhood friends (and families) are officially back.

Get ready to take a trip down memory lane! To celebrate a decade since the show first aired, the cast of Reply 1988 is coming together for a special reunion. South Korean network tvN dropped a poster teasing the event, and Channel Fullmoon on YouTube shared a short teaser for the reportedly three-episode special.
The reunion features the core five—Lee Hye-ri, Park Bo-gum, Go Kyung-pyo, Ryu Jun-yeol, and Lee Dong-hwi—alongside their on-screen families played by Sung Dong-il, Ra Mi-ran, Kim Sung-kyun, Choi Moo-sung, Yoo Jae-myung, Ahn Jae-hong, Ryu Hye-young, and more. They went on a two-day, one-night trip together, which promises plenty of laughter, heartfelt moments, and maybe a few flashbacks to the 1980s.
Fans were thrilled to hear that Lee Hye-ri, who played the adorable Deok-sun, would be back for the reunion, with her participation confirmed by her agency, Sublime. As for Ryu Jun-yeol, who played the brooding Kim Jung-hwan, his schedule kept him from joining the main trip. But don't worry—he still filmed his own segments separately.
Since he and Hyeri were once a real-life couple who went through a messy breakup, fans are equal parts curious and nervous to see if the former pair will have any on-screen moments together during the special. 👀
Reply 1988 is set in late '80s Seoul and follows five families and their childhood friends, capturing the ups, downs, and hilarious quirks of neighborhood life. The series is the third in the Reply anthology (after Reply 1997 and Reply 1994) and was a massive hit, with its finale scoring a record-breaking 19.6% viewership for a cable drama. Beyond Korea, it helped spark the international K-drama boom, winning hearts worldwide through Netflix.
The first episode of the anniversary special premieres on December 19 on tvN.
