Apple Pay And Google Pay Are Finally Coming To The PH—Here's What You Need To Know

Published on Nov 5, 2025
After years of waiting, both Apple Pay and Google Pay are finally making their way to the Philippines next year—meaning you'll soon be able to literally tap your phone or smartwatch to pay for your purchases. No more digging through your bag for your wallet, no more awkwardly handing over your card at the counter (and avoiding that awkward eye contact-and-smile combo).
And now that the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has officially cleared the way for their local rollouts, it looks like we're ready to upgrade our cashless payments v soon.
Apple Pay and Google Pay Is Coming To The PH In 2026
According to The Philippine Star, the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) has confirmed that it expects to be ready to support both platforms by next year. This comes as banks and global digital wallet providers gear up for their long-awaited Philippine debut.
"We talk to everyone. It would be crazy for a bank not to participate," said BPI president and CEO Jose Teodoro Limcaoco, who also serves as president of the Bankers Association of the Philippines. "[BPI] is not ready yet, but we can do it next year."
In a report via GMA, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) recently ruled that the two tech giants won't actually won't need to register as "Operators of Payment Systems" (OPS) in the country since they don't actually hold your money. Instead, they simply act as digital bridges between your existing cards or e-wallets and the stores where you shop.
In other words, no more regulatory roadblocks! With that major hurdle out of the way, local banks can start working on the next step: making sure their card systems can support tokenization, the tech that allows for secure, encrypted mobile payments.
And with BPI hinting at readiness by 2026, that could very well be the year Filipino users finally get to use Apple Pay and Google Pay for real.
How do Apple Pay and Google Pay work?
Both payment systems work through near-field communication (NFC), which lets users pay by simply tapping their devices on compatible terminals. Once your preferred debit or credit card is linked, the process of paying becomes as easy as tap-and-go—no need to pull out your wallet or punch in your PIN.
Aside from being incredibly convenient, these platforms also promise top-tier security thanks to tokenization, which replaces your actual card number with encrypted information during transactions. That means even if your phone gets lost or stolen, your card details stay secure.
When will Apple Pay and Google Pay launch in the PH?
While there's no exact launch date yet, it's safe to say we're one big(!) step closer to leaving our wallets (and pesky cash and card transactions) behind. We'll keep you posted on any major updates!
