Now Now Canteen, a restaurant located in Mandaluyong and recognized by the Michelin Guide, chose to celebrate its achievement in the simplest yet most heartwarming way—by sending one of its line cooks, Lea Hasta, to receive the award during the inauguration held at the Manila Marriott Hotel in Pasay City.

In an Instagram post, the restaurant shared that receiving the honor was more than just about prestige. It was a celebration of the people behind the scenes: those whose hard work and dedication often go unseen but are essential in bringing every dish to life.

"Last night at the @michelinguide Awards, we didn’t send a founder. We didn’t send an executive chef," Now Now Canteen wrote.

"We sent Ms. Lea Hasta (@leahasta), one of our line cooks, to receive the honor — and we thank MICHELIN for recognizing the work of everyday hands," they added.

The restaurant expressed that their success wouldn't have been possible without the dedication of their kitchen team, highlighting the persistence, long hours, and passion that fuel every service.

"Our MICHELIN moment isn't about a name etched on a plaque. It's about the ones who stay when the night runs long, the dishwashers who keep the kitchen moving, the cooks who quietly chase perfection, and the laughter that makes the heat bearable. Recognition, for us, has never been for one," Now Now Canteen said.

"It's for the many who make one unforgettable meal possible—for the hands that hold knives like brushes, the souls who season food with grace, and the humility that keeps the fire burning. Because in the end, recognition isn't about prestige or applause," they added.

How Does The Michelin Guide Work?

For the first time, the Michelin Guide has recognized restaurants across the Philippines. A total of 108 establishments in the food and beverage industry were honored. One restaurant, Helm by Josh Boutwood, earned two Michelin stars, while eight received one-star ratings: Asador Alfonso, Celera, Gallery by Chele, Hapag, Inatô, Kasa Palma, Linamnam, and Toyo Eatery.

Meanwhile, 25 restaurants were distinguished under the Bib Gourmand category awarded to establishments that serve high-quality food at affordable prices. Another 74 were included in the Michelin Guide Selection, including Now Now Canteen.

According to the Michelin Guide's official website, restaurants are evaluated based on five universal criteria:

  • The quality of ingredients

  • The mastery of cooking techniques

  • The harmony of flavors

  • The personality of the cuisine

  • Consistency

The Michelin Guide began its journey in the Philippines earlier in 2025, when Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the Michelin Guide, officially announced their arrival.
