PSA: This Online Arrival Card Is The Newest Addition To Your Taiwan Trip Checklist

If you're traveling to Taiwan soon, there's a new must-do on your pre-flight checklist: the Taiwan Online Arrival Card (TWAC). Starting October 1, this digital form will become a mandatory requirement for all foreign nationals entering Taiwan.

The National Immigration Agency (NIA) confirmed that the TWAC will officially replace the old paper-based cards, making the arrival process faster and more convenient for travelers.

"This new measure aims to streamline immigration clearance and eliminate the hassle of filling out the paper forms," according to its official press release.

The new TWAC is free of charge and can only be completed online. Travelers are advised to submit the form within three days before their scheduled flight.

When applying, you'll see two options: Submit a New Arrival Card or Update an Existing Arrival Card. Simply choose the one that applies to you.

According to NIA's website, these are the four types of visitors who are required to submit TWAC before arriving in Taiwan:

1. Nationals without Household Registration in the Taiwan Area
   

2. Foreign Nationals
   

3. People of the Mainland Area
   

4. People of Hong Kong and Macau

1. Make sure you complete and submit your Online Arrival Card at least three days before you arrive in Taiwan.
   

2. Fill out all details accurately without mistakes.
   

3. For the "English name" field, use only English letters and spaces—no symbols or special characters.
   

4. If you're filling out the form in Chinese, please use Traditional Chinese only.

According to the website, you'll receive a confirmation via email once submitted.

"Travelers do not need to present the confirmation during inspection. When an immigration officer scans the passport, the system automatically retrieves the recorded TWAC data," NIA said.
