Can Mouthwash Get Rid Of Your Dandruff?

Straight from the DIY queen of Instagram.

Canadian Beauty blogger Farah Dhukai rose to Instagram popularity all thanks to her crazy—but apparently effective—DIY videos. We’ve learned her secret to growing full brows and drying up pimples with simple ingredients.

For her latest beauty hack, Farah reveals how she gets rid of dandruff with something that isn’t shampoo:

Her instructions say to fill a spray bottle with equal parts water and—get this—Listerine. Shake up the mixture, and spray it on the scalp after shampoo and conditioner. Let it sit for a few minutes and then wash everything out with water. “Listerine has menthol, thymol, eucalyptol and methyl salicylate - all which make it an anti-fungal, anti-septic and and anti-inflammitory and PERFECT for getting rid of dandruff,” she wrote.

The Huffington Post investigated Farah’s claims and consulted an expert about the matter. What did they found out? She’s actually right! Listerine does have anti-fungal properties that can mildly reduce scalp irritation.

While this hack is pretty smart, we think we’ll stick to our favorite anti-dandruff shampoo and conditioner.
