If you're one of Jordan Bone's more than 35,000 YouTube followers, you know the talented beauty guru has her own unique way of applying makeup. She holds her brushes differently, and applies eyeliner from angles that you wouldn't expect, with her hands scrunched up. After seeing dozens of not-always-nice comments from people asking her what's going on with her hands, Jordan decided to release a whole new kind of video, showing the world why she's so unique.
Ten years ago, Jordan was in a car accident that left her tetraplegic, with partial or full loss in all of her limbs and torso. She can't bathe herself or do her own hair. But she has found ways to apply makeup in her own, non-traditional way, giving her back her confidence. In her video, she shares how she went through major depression and anxiety about her identity, not wanting to be only known as "the girl in the wheelchair." "There are so many struggles in my life," she says. "I mean, I can't dress myself or do my own hair, so to be able to do my own makeup is my thing."
In her usual tutorials, she edits out the different ways she gets around her disability, like by using her mouth to hold brushes. But her newest video has no editing. She bravely shows exactly how she creates such flawless looks without being able to move her hands. She's sharing her story to inspire people that "if something is standing in your way, maybe it means trying a different way. Explore your options. The obvious route might not always be for you."
Prepare to be seriously inspired by Jordan and watch her video below.
