Wearing a vampy lip is downright tricky. Here, 5 ways to wear a dark lip and look just as uh-mazing as your favorite celebs:
1. Keep everything else simple
Maxene Magalona paired her brown lips (Kylie Lip Kit in True Brown K!) with full brows, finely lined lids, and curled lashes. To highlight the lips, she kept the rest of her face simple: flawless skin and fresh blush.
2. Matte lippies aren't your only option
We often associate dark lips with matte finishes, but check out how Coleen Garcia’s glossy black lips worked so well with her subtle cat eye and light contour. Layering a clear gloss on top of your matte lipstick is a great way to mask dry lips, too.
3. Use your lips to contrast your dress
Wearing a light-colored dress? Paint on a bold lip like Lucy Hale's. Her strapless silver dress is elegant on its own, but pairing it with deep plum lips gave her look more character.
4. Pair it with dramatic eyes—it’s okay!
One of the first “rules of makeup” we learn is to never pair bold lipstick with dramatic eyes. However, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with doing so, especially if the occasion calls for it! Take cues from Georgina Wilson, and sport deep maroon lips, full lashes, and full-rimmed eyes.
5. Brighten your eyes
Why not wear bright-colored contacts (a la Sarah Lahbati) to balance out your dark lip?
