Regardless of age and generation, we cannot deny that all of us—at least once in our life—have 'shipped a Pinoy love team. Does Peachy and Wacks from T.G.I.S. ring a bell? Of course they did! But now that portmanteaus ("Brangelina" for example) seem to be a requirement for every love team, should we just call them "WaChy?" LOL!
Let’s all take a trip down memory lane and see our favorite '90s love teams and their millennial counterparts:
'90s love team: Claudine Barretto and Rico Yan
Millennial counterpart: JulNigo (Julia Barretto and Inigo Pascual)
The Claudine-Rico pairing was one of the most iconic love teams in the '90s, and was most remembered for their movie Got 2 Believe. ICYDK: The two actually became a real-life couple long before Rico's passing. Claudine admitted that she still thinks of Rico everyday (we miss him too!). While JulNigo is a relatively new on-screen couple, they already have a solid fan base especially after the release of their first movie Para Sa Hopeless Romantic, which they starred in alongside Nadine Lustre and James Reid.
'90s love team: Angelu De Leon and Bobby Andrews
Millennial Counterpart: AlDub (Alden Richards and Yaya Dub)
Did you know that Angelu and Bobby’s love team was actually an accident just like AlDub? Bobby even confessed that he had a huge crush on Angelu long before he met her in person. Sounds familiar?
'90s love team: Judy Ann Santos and Wowie De Guzman
Millennial Counterpart: KathNiel (Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla)
The Juday-Wowie love team kind of started the era of successful teleserye couples, as they top-billed Mara Clara and Esperanza; Kathryn and Daniel, on the other hand, are the reigning Teen Queen and Teen King of today's generation.
'90s love team: Jolina Magdangal and Marvin Agustin
Millennial Counterpart: AnBie (Andre Paras and Barbie Forteza)
Jolina's charm plus Marvin's kakulitan were probably the secrets to their success! The same kind of chemistry can be seen in The Half Sisters lead stars Andre and Barbie—kilig chemistry onscreen and a solid friendship offscreen. With their teleserye being extended a lot of times already, it’s no doubt that we'll be seeing more of this pair soon!
'90s love team: Angelica Panganiban and Carlo Aquino
Millennial Counterpart: LizQuen (Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil)
Both pairs have proven their on-screen chemistry as Jelai (Angelica) and Jun-Jun (Carlo) in G-Mik, and Agnes (Liza) and Xander (Enrique) in Forevermore. Sadly, the Angelica-Carlo romance didn’t last long, but we’re still hoping the best for LizQuen.
'90s love team: Bea Alonzo and John Lloyd Cruz
Millennial Counterpart: JaDine (James Reid and Nadine Lustre)
Bea and John Lloyd never fell in love with each other during their love team days (we're still wondering why). And Nadine and James have been super honest with their fans, saying that they're just friends (we're also still wondering WHY). Despite that, the two duos have had great chemistry in their projects—Bea and John Lloyd on Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay, and JaDine in On The Wings of Love.
