The past few years have basically been a shitstorm for Justin Bieber: He was charged with vandalism for graffiti in Brazil and for egging his neighbor’s home, was arrested for DUI and drag racing, was caught on camera peeing in a mop bucket at a restaurant, and in a brawl with Orlando Bloom, had the whole world rooting for Legolas.
Last year, we had pretty much written him off as the next Lindsay Lohan, but this year he did a complete one-eighty and is now out to show everyone that he’s actually—dare we say it—a likeable guy. Below, a timeline of things the Biebs did in 2015 that prove he’s once again ready to be your baby, baby, baby, oh! (Totally sang it in your head, didn’t you?)
1. When he posted an apology video to his Facebook page.
In January, Justin filmed a video where he apologizes for being “arrogant” and “conceited” in the past year. “I’m not who I was pretending to be,” he says. “We pretend to be something we’re not as a cover-up of what we’re truly feeling inside. And there were a lot of feelings going on in there.”
2. When he surprised a teen burn victim with flowers on The Doctors.
In February, JB showed up on the health show to surprise Kilee Brookbank, a 16-year-old girl whose body was severely burned in an accidental explosion at home.
3. When he prank called a fan in a British accent on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
JB had been hanging out on Ellen a lot at the start of the year, playing pranks and being pranked. In this one, he fools a fan into thinking that he’s the head of the English department at her university and that she is failing her classes. Can we just say, OMG THAT ACCENT.
4. When he was totally inappropriate to an old lady on Repeat after Me.
In February, the Biebs appeared on the hidden camera show to prank Tish, a bowling instructor who was supposed to give him private lessons. The results are HILARIOUS. #BieberBeBallin
5. When he gamely sat through that painful Comedy Central Roast.
To celebrate his 21st birthday last March, Justin let himself be roasted by Martha Stewart, Will Ferrell, Shaquille O’Neal, Snoop Dogg, Ludacris, and a slew of comedians. Needless to say, they were merciless—and didn’t lay off the Selena jokes one bit—but he remained ~cool~ all throughout.
6. When he did Carpool Karaoke on The Late Late Show with James Corden .
What we wouldn’t give to seat-dance with the Biebs. And watch him solve a Rubik’s Cube.
7. When he blew us away with a performance of “I’ll Make Love to You.”
In May, JB regaled the audience at the W Hotel in Hollywood with a sexy rendition of the Boyz II Men classic—complete with some cheeky floor-humping. He obvs loves this ‘90s sexy-time anthem: He sang it again later that same month to a newly engaged couple he had come across.
8. When he hung out with doppelganger Ruby Rose.
JB and Ruby have been called lookalikes since the Australian actress broke out in the series Orange Is the New Black. In June, they finally met and struck up a friendship—which just goes to show how chill JB is about being compared looks-wise to an androgynous female.
9. When he got that “G” tattoo in honor of the sick daughter of his pastor friend.
“This is for the strongest couple i know Chad and Julia Veach!” Justin wrote in the caption for this Instagram photo uploaded in July. “Their daughter was born with Lissencephaly. She is incredible and has the sweetest soul. You guys make me better and I’m blessed to have you in my life #Georgia #gtat.”
10. When he deleted his butt photo on Instagram because of a young follower.
His explanation? “Hey I deleted the photo of my butt on Instagram not because I thought it was bad but someone close to me’s daughter follows me and she was embarrassed that she saw my butt and I totally wasn’t thinking in that aspect.” We’re not too bummed about it though, because recent photos have surfaced of him flashing his peen (!) while on vacation in Bora-Bora. The Internet truly works in wonderful ways.
11. When he cheered on Canada at the Special Olympics.
In July, the Biebs cheered alongside Special Olympians from his home country at the opening ceremony of the 2015 Special Olympics. LET’S GO CANADA!
12. When he made people’s lives better on Knock Knock Live.
In July, JB appeared on the new reality show where stars literally knock on people’s doors and shower them with huge surprises. He treated a teenage girl named Ashley to a quinceañera, a Latin American celebration of a girl’s fifteenth birthday that marks her transition from childhood to adulthood. In the same episode, he also presented a check for $50,000 to Nakia, a single father and inspirational hip-hop artist whose son has Down syndrome.
Justin delivered an electrifying performance of “Where Are Ü Now” and “What Do You Mean” at the VMAs this year, and was so overwhelmed by the experience that he shed a few man tears at the end. Speaking on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon later, he confessed, “Honestly...I just wasn’t expecting them to support me in the way they did. Last time I was at an award show I was booed.” Aww.
14. When he played the drums for a cover band at an Indiana bar.
15. When he got real about the breakdown of Jelena in the October/November issue of Complex.
“When stuff would happen, I would lose my freakin’ mind, and she would lose her mind, and we would fight so hard because we were so invested in each other. Love is a choice. Love is not a feeling. People have made it seem in movies that it’s this fairy tale. That’s not what love is. You’re not gonna want to love your girl sometimes but you’re gonna choose to love her.” Right in the feels. #Jelena4ever
