Heartthrob material in his own right, singer-songwriter Miguel Escueta was one of the Cosmo Bachelors who got wet and wild in 2008. But unlike the other brawny boys on the list, he didn’t take his top off, leaving not a few ladies scratching their heads.A year later, we got the chance to chat with the rocker, who recently released the EP Sleeping While The World's Awake under MCA Music. Yes, we finally asked him the million-dollar question: Why didn’t you rip that shirt off?
But lest you think that’s all that interests us about him, think again! Read on to find out other facts we learned about this music-loving cutie. Clue: He’s really a softie underneath that tousle-haired, guitar-toting rockstar exterior!
1. Rock stars like him brood over breakups, too…
"I only had one major breakup. It was my first major relationship. I guess [I made] mistakes, like I kind of invested too much of myself in it. Hirap din e. She was older. I was still in school, she was working na, so I think the different worlds nag-collide din. [The breakup] was really bad for me [because of] insecurity and immaturity on my part. I was still young then. I think mas masakit if you’re not mature enough to handle it. But I learned from my experience. Kasi ‘yung relationship na ‘yun akala mo ‘yun na, but in hindsight, you’re thankful na it happened that way because you get to a point where you’re much happier now."
2. …and this personal angst finds its way into his music.
"When I write songs, I take it from everything that I go through. A lot of my first album was about that failed first relationship. But a lot of my new album is about new relationships and what you go through everyday. My life is very much reflected in the songs that I write."
3. He believes that in a relationship, opposites attract.
"I think the farther [her interests are] from what you do, the better. That way hindi ka masyadong babad masyado sa mundo ng music. You have something to balance it."
4. There’s a reason he didn’t take his shirt off at his Cosmo Bachelor shoot.
"I was very flattered na pinili nila ako. But I didn’t take my shirt off, I left it on. Hindi ‘yun ang image ko, hindi naman ako bodybuilder e. No offense to those who did it. It’s just not me."
5. His fans mean the world to him.
"They’re one of the most important things. We wouldn’t be here if not for them. We wouldn’t be passionate about our craft. It’s really heartwarming to see that those who supported you from the start are still here. They’re one of the most important factors in what we do."
