The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) arrested a 51-year-old American national found with a minor inside a hotel room in Iligan City.
NBI officer Atty. Abdul Jamal Dimaporo said the suspicious activities of the suspect who was only identified as a retired US government employee were tipped by a concerned citizen.
"Noong pag-pasok natin sa room nila, with the help of hotel management nakita natin mismo na nakapatong sila sa isat-isa although naka-clothes sila," he told ABS-CBN.
However, the suspect’s legal counsel, Atty. Kristine Campilan insisted that the two were in a relationship.
"There was no indication that the child had been abused. If the child, if you can call it a child, is 17 years old with discernment, she also secured the consent of her parents," she said.
The NBI also arrested the victim’s mother for allegedly pimping her child to the suspect. Their neighbor was also nabbed for acting as an interpreter for both parties.
The victim will undergo a medical exam while the suspect faces child abuse charges.
The victim’s mother and their neighbor were also charged by the NBI for violating the anti-human trafficking law.
