AFP Deploys All-Female Military Unit To Marawi

Be safe, ladies.

Last August 29, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and Philippine National Police (PNP) sent off an "all-female contingent composed 60 AFP enlisted personnel and 40 non-commissioned PNP officers to help the ongoing rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts in Marawi City," reports the Philippine Air Force (PAF).

AFP chief of staff General Eduardo M. Año and other officials were at the send-off ceremony at the PAF Grandstand, Colonel Jesus Villamor Air Base, Pasay City.

AFP public affairs chief Marine Colonel Edgard Arevalo explained that the female troops will be "facilitating psychosocial healing and peacebuilding."

The report notes: "This government effort will be carried out in collaboration with relevant government agencies and non-government organizations, and different key stakeholders."
