Actress Alyssa Milano sparked an international social media trend on October 16 when she shared a screenshot asking all women who have suffered sexual harassment or assault in any form to respond "Me too."

Milano acted alongside Rose McGowan, who has accused Harvey Weinstein of rape. The actresses worked together on the television series Charmed.

Milano's tweet has thus far had 30,000 responses, most of which read "Me too." Anna Paquin, Debra Messing, and Laura Dreyfuss were among high-profile women to echo the words.

The screenshot has been shared on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter with thousands repeating the two words. The huge response proves the pervasiveness of sexual assault and harassment of women around the world.

The campaign was launched following the Weinstein allegations, with numerous women claiming that the powerful producer either raped, sexually harassed, or assaulted them. Weinstein has denied all allegations of nonconsensual sex.

While the hashtag is a powerful way to help people come forward and simultaneously bring women together, it still places all the responsibility on the women who have been assaulted, rather than the men who did the assaulting. Either way, it's yet another reminder that there's power in numbers.
