We all know Andrea Torres as one of the Kapuso network's most prized leading ladies. She's currently starring in her biggest soap to date, Legal Wives, where she plays Diane, a young woman caught in a whirlwind romance that's challenged by culture and religion. But this piece isn't about Andrea, The Actress. We're here to introduce a new side to Andrea Torres, as a loving daughter and sister.
In the pilot episode of Cosmo.ph's new video series, My Childhood, we go back in time with Andrea as she tells us stories of her charmed life growing up in the '90s and '00s with a brood of siblings (they're five in all!) and her two hands-on parents. Here are snippets of our interview with Andrea:
How can you describe yourself as a child?
"They call me Adabadbad. Kasi nung bata ako medyo ako yung masungit. 'Pag class picture, ako yung nag-iisang nakasimangot. 'Pag may mascot or may clown, lahat ng bata masaya, ako umiiyak kasi takot ako. Blessed lang talaga ako na yung sister ko napakabait and understanding. Hindi niya ako pinapatulan. Ako kasi yung tipo, 'Gusto ko ako yung una!' So buti na lang na-outgrow ko 'yon."
Who are you closest to in the family?
"Actually close ako sa kanilang lahat e. Kaya nakakatuwa kasi kahit sino sa kanila pwede kong kausapin, 'di ko kailangan i-edit yung sasabihin ko. We're very open."
What are the childhood memories you cherish?
"The thing with my parents kasi, they're very present. Every stage of our lives nandoon talaga sila…Hindi kami mayaman na family pero yung parents ko talagang ginagawa nilang lahat to give us things that they know will make us happy. Like I will always have yung latest model ng Barbie, latest damit, latest telepono. And I guess nag-stick 'yon, klarong-klaro samin how much they love us and that they really just want the best for us."
What's it like still living with your parents?
"Hindi mo maibabalik yung time, yung oras na mayroon ka sa parents mo. And nung nag-COVID nga sabi ko, 'Ay, ako yata yung pinaka swerteng anak.' Kasi ako yung nandito sa house that time. Lahat ng kapatid ko wala. I got to spend more time with them and bond with them."
