Did you know that Angel Locsin is actually part of a royal family?
While guesting on an episode of Matteo Guidicelli's podcast MattRuns, Angel addressed the reports that indicate she actually belongs to Muslim royalty in Marawi.
Matteo: "Bakit sa research, [it says that] you are part of a royal family in Mindanao?"
Angel shared that there are actually two versions of how she came to become part of Marawi royalty.
Angel: "Paano ko ba pag-uusapan? Nahihiya kasi ako magsabi pero may dalawang version kasi. Yung version na alam ko, na kinalakihan ko, is yung mommy ko kasi is adopted sa Marawi. Napakabait nila sa amin, Matteo. 'Di pa 'ko artista…"
According to the version Angel grew up knowing, her mom was adopted by the princess of Marawi. Angel talked about how her Marawi relatives have treated her and her mom with nothing but love, kindness, and generosity.
Matteo: "So Muslim yung side ng mommy mo?"
Angel: "Christian. Napakabait. Kahit Christian, walang issue, walang friction. Napaka-giving lang nila talaga. 'Yon yung isang version."
Matteo: "Ano yung second version?"
When Marawi became a battleground between government forces and a terrorist group in 2017, Angel visited evacuees in Iligan City.
In 2009, an ABS-CBN article noted that apart from the adoption story version, other reports claimed Angel's grandfather was one of Marawi's 15 sultanates.
Despite being part of royalty, Angel makes it a point not to boast about it, sharing that her kin in Marawi lead a simple life.
