Anne Curtis has gone viral for many reasons—breakup buzz, alleged pregnancies, even her "capsicum" segment at It’s Showtime—but none has proven as enduring as the infamous club scandal where the actress, while allegedly drunk, supposedly said, "I can buy you, your friends, and this club."

Decades later, the actress is finally speaking up the truth behind the line.

In a recent podcast guesting with Director Antoinette "Tonet" Jadaone and JP Habac, Anne addressed the controversy and revealed that she never actually said the viral line in the first place!

"Sabi ko [sa friends ko], 'sinabi ko ba talaga yun?' so that I can own up to it kung sinabi ko. Sabi ng mga friends ko, 'No, you didn't say it.'"

"Sabi ko, 'Ha?' All this time? But you know what it's so iconic now, I'm gonna own it," the actress shared.

ICYDK, the controversy dates back to 2013, when Anne took over headlines over allegations that she caused a commotion while intoxicated at a club. The story quickly made rounds on former showbiz talk shows like The Buzz and Startalk. Reports at the time also claimed she was with actor John Lloyd Cruz, who never publicly addressed the issue.

Anne shared that when the rumors first surfaced, the online backlash was intense. She faced criticism and harsh comments, but chose not to clarify her side, believing that speaking up might only worsen the situation or be used against her. Over time, however, she learned to rise above the noise, especially knowing there was no truth to the claim.

"Ang dami nagko-comment, 'Ay, she's in her ano [I can buy you, your friends, and this club] era again.' It's okay, I'm not affected by it kasi I know the truth naman… I'm not bothered," Anne emphasized.

Direk Tonet and JP were visibly surprised by her revelation, highlighting how easily narratives can be shaped by the media. The moment also served as a reminder that not everything people see on social media is the truth.

For Anne, the experience taught her the value of having a solid support system, as her close friends played a crucial role in helping her move on from the controversy. "Hindi ako nagbukas ng social media for two months kasi grabe talaga yung mga pinagsasabi [sa'kin]," the actress disclosed, admitting that at the time, the issue felt like "the end of the world" for her.

"That's when I found out who my real friends were. Kasi pinupuntahan nila ako. Like they would set up a night na talagang buo yung barkada. And yun yung mga iba't-ibang core groups ko," she added.

And now that the line has taken on a life of its own in pop culture, Anne has chosen to fully own it. During the podcast, she delivered the infamous words herself, complete with her signature "taray" look and hand gestures.
