On April 28, Anne Curtis became the first female recipient of the FPJ Memorial Award which was presented to her at the 67th FAMAS 2019 Awards night held at the Meralco Theater.

Dressed in a black dress and wearing her recently acquired Givenchy bow owned by Audrey Hepburn, Anne posted on Instagram, “Last night I was given an honor so overwhelming that I fumbled for my words the moment I got on stage. So please allow me to put down in words what I really wanted to say.”

Anne continued, “It was a very special night and I would like to thank the Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Science for giving me the recognition and as the first female recipient of the FPJ Memorial Award. Just as “Da King” led the way to make a mark in the industry with his action films, I was given the opportunity to do the action film Buy Bust that had a strong female lead.”

In 2018, Anne did three films, each with different genres and strong female leads. Anne said, “This goes to show it is an amazing and exciting time in the industry where females can take on the part as strong leads of any film, of any genre.”

She dedicated her award to her mom, Carmencita Curtis-Smith, as well as to the Filipino youth who continue to have high hopes and work hard to pursue their dreams. “I pray that there will be many more films with kick-ass strong female leads,” Anne said.
