Anne Curtis Stands Up For Love After Portraying A Transgender Pastor In 'Maalaala Mo Kaya'

Earlier this week, it was reported that Anne Curtis would be playing a trans man on the July 13 episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya.

As part of its 28th anniversary, the anthology series adapted the story of Marrz Balaoro, a 62-year-old transgender pastor who established a branch of the LGBTS (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Straight) Christian Church in Hong Kong in 2014. The episode, titled “MMK Embracing Me,” is about his coming of age.

After the episode aired yesterday, Anne took to Instagram to express her thoughts on love and to thank Marrz for letting her portray him.

“Love should always come first,” Anne wrote. “No matter the gender or how people identify themselves as, at the end of the day, we are all humans who deserve to live in a world of LOVE and RESPECT.”

She added, “Maraming salamat, Marrz Balaoro, sa pagpayag niyo po na gampanan ko ang kwento ng buhay niyo, at sa @mmkofficial sa tiwala na binigay niyo po sa akin sa special episode na ‘to.”
