The reality is, before Anne Curtis is an actress, she is first and foremost a Filipino citizen who (like most of us) needs to pay their taxes. It's a common ground she shares with every Filipino, regardless of their status or profession, because when it comes to taxes, no one should be exempt.
But with the growing public outcry over corruption and the misuse of funds, another reality becomes clear: silence only perpetuates the cycle.
Anne Curtis Reminds Filipinos To Speak Up On Where Taxes Go
ICYDK, let's brush up a bit on social science: In principle, taxation is an authority we, the people, have entrusted to our government. The government, in turn, should ensure that revenues are channeled toward public welfare, safety, security, and development.
In other words, the taxes we pay are not just numbers on paper. They are resources meant to come back to us, the Filipino people, in the form of services, infrastructure, and programs that uplift communities. And yes, that includes flood control measures and walkable sidewalks.
In an Instagram post, Anne reminded fellow Filipinos of this very point: "Bilang mga taxpayers, it allows us to ask an important question: Saan ba talaga napupunta ung taxes natin lahat?"
Her message came after she received a Plaque of Appreciation from the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), recognizing her as one of Quezon City's top taxpaying media personalities.
But for Anne, the recognition became more than just an accolade. It's also a moment of reflection, not just for her but for all of us, to demand accountability and full transparency in how taxpayers' money is spent. After all, every peso represents the blood, sweat, and tears of hardworking Filipinos.
"I DO BELIEVE in paying taxes—when they're used for the growth of our nation, the betterment of our communities, and most importantly, in support of our fellow Filipinos who need the extra hand," Anne stressed.
She added, "Specially, for the youth and children who don’t have access to proper nutrition and education."
Like every responsible citizen, Anne shared that she pays her taxes correctly and on time. Still, she was firm that it's ultimately the government's duty to use these funds for the right reasons.
"It’s time we use our voices to END CORRUPTION in our country para sa mga anak natin at para sa future generation of Filipinos," she added.
