Ashley Ortega Gets Real About Her Unexpected Romance With Mavy Legaspi Despite Their Age Difference

Ashley Ortega's biggest love lesson so far: never say never—because the one you didn't expect might end up being exactly what you needed.

During her guesting on the online show Your Honor, the actress got candid about how her romance with Mavy Legaspi challenged her long-held dating preferences. The relationship, she admitted, was something she didn't see coming at all.

Ashley revealed that Mavy is actually the first boyfriend she's had who's younger than her. "I'm 27 now and kaka-25 lang niya," she shared, adding that her previous partners were all older by five to seven years. Because of that pattern, she had always been firm about one personal rule: she didn't want to date someone younger.

Looking back, that mindset is something she now laughs about. "Siguro isa sa mga natutunan ko is 'Wag kang magsalita nang tapos kasi you never know,'" she said. "Sobrang unexpected talaga kay Mavy."

Their story even started on a light, slightly teasing note—very rom-com coded, if you ask us. When Mavy first began courting her, Ashley couldn't take him seriously at all. She initially saw him as a—wait for it—baby boy.

"Noong nililigawan niya ako, sinasabi ko talaga, 'Oh my God, baby boy lang tingin ko sa'yo,'" she recalled, laughing. Mavy, of course, wasn't thrilled with the nickname, especially coming from the lady he was courting. "Nagagalit siya, 'How dare you say that to me! Can you stop calling me that?'"

What slowly changed her perspective was Mavy's steady presence and genuine effort. He kept showing up, made his intentions clear, and treated her with the kind of care that felt both reassuring and sincere. "Na-in love ako sa kanya because he was consistent," she said, describing him as eager, attentive, and a true gentleman.

In her past relationships with older men, Ashley often felt the need to prove that she was mature enough and on the same wavelength. With Mavy, that pressure disappeared. "Hindi ko na kailangan i-prove yung sarili ko," she explained. Instead, she found herself in a relationship where she could simply be herself and be taken care of, too. "Mas maalaga siya. Tutok talaga sa akin 24/7."

The conversation then shifted to marriage and future plans, but Ashley is honest about keeping things pressure-free. Even before they officially dated, she was upfront with Mavy about her life stage and long-term goals. At 26 then, she was already thinking about settling down and wanted something serious.

"Sabi ko sa kanya, 'If you're going to end up being with me, gusto ko ikaw na yung last ko,'" she shared. Mavy's response reassured her—he also wanted his next relationship to be his last. Cue the collective squealing from the audience.

Despite that shared intention, Ashley isn't rushing into marriage. Career remains a priority, and she's focused on building her path at her own pace. In fact, being with someone younger has helped ease the timeline pressure she once felt. "Dating a younger guy, mas less pressure sa akin. Hindi ko kailangan maghabol," she explained.
