Update: July 7, 2020
Excited mom-to-be Assunta shared the first pics of her ultrasound as she's five months pregnant! She wrote: "Hmm... my little miracle from heaven is being pasaway. Alam na kung kanino nagmana!
But seriously, I’m feeling a bit emotional because the last time I had a scan, the baby was as small as a jellybean, if not smaller. It’s the fear of not knowing. But I survived my 1st and 2nd trimester during a pandemic and lockdown without any complications! Cheers!"
Today, May 5, 2020, the 37-year-old Italian-Filipino actress announced that she's pregnant with her first child! After 18 years of being married, Assunta de Rossi and former congressman Jules Ledesma, 59, have a bun in the oven.
"I know, shocking!" the soon-to-be mama wrote. "Getting pregnant the natural way with myoma and endometriosis (which I both have) is extremely difficult," Assunta revealed.
"Only medical intervention or a miracle can make it happen. This was a miracle!" Assunta exclaimed. She had wanted to get pregnant before she turned 40.
Myoma or uterine fibroids are noncancerous growths that develop in the wall of the uterus. It can appear during childbearing years, and many women have myoma. However, it often goes undetected, as it usually has no symptoms. It doesn't usually get in the way of pregnancy.
Endometriosis, on the other hand, is a condition wherein the uterine lining (endometrium) grows outside the uterus, such as in the ovaries and fallopian tubes. It causes painful menstruation, damage to reproductive organs, and may interfere with getting pregnant.
Assunta and Jules Ledesma have been married for 18 years. This is their first baby together. Jules has two grown-up kids, Cristina, 29, and Carlos, 24, with his late first wife Maria Cristina Tsung Pek, who passed away in 2000.
Assunta paid a visit to her obstetrician-gynecologist on March 5, 2020, after more than three years of not consulting with her. She did so because she missed her period. An ultrasound and blood test confirmed she was about five weeks pregnant at that time.
"This has been my life even before quarantine started—just being in bed all day, feeling horrible," the expecting mom wrote during the wee hours of the morning. Assunta revealed she's been feeling fatigued, having nausea, tender swollen breasts, food aversions, constipation, dizziness, and heartburn—all which are typical symptoms of pregnancy.
She's now on her 14th week and is worried that she hasn't gained weight. "Everything I eat goes to my tummy and [breasts]," she quipped.
Congratulations, Assunta and Jules!
