Valentine’s Day is a day for celebrating all kinds of love, especially your love for your parents. In a new poem titled “Mga Nais Kong Sabihin Ngunit 'Di Ko Nasabi,” Benjamin Alves pays tribute to his mom and late dad, who passed away in October.
The actor assumes the voice of his late dad, Ebet Sapida, and speaks “of the tender love between them, of words left unsaid, of love that transcends, of moments never to be forgotten.”
“Ang bilis ng lahat. Hindi ko akalaing magiging ganito kabilis ang paghihiwalay natin,” Benjamin writes. “Mahal, wag kang mag-alala para sa akin… Okay lang ako. Okay na ako. Masaya na akong ikaw ang huli kong nasilayan sa aking pagpanaw dito sa mundo.”
“Maligayang araw ng mga puso, mahal. Hanggang sa muli nating pagkikita. Pikit ka lang. Andito ako.” We’re not crying, you’re crying!
Sharing the video on Instagram, he says, “Mom, I know Dad isn’t around physically to celebrate this season with you, but I hope he spoke enough through me to bring you some hope, some peace, some love today. I love you, Ma.”
He collaborated with musicians and siblings Yael Yuzon and Yan Yuzon to create the video. Yan says, “Good on you to wear your heart on your sleeve, Benjamin. Thanks for sharing this. Your dad would have been mighty proud. Or rather, I am certain he is.”
Yan reminds us all, “Make meaningful, loving gestures to your loved ones while you can, and know that even when you go, the love you've shared in a community remains, and will be cherished and celebrated by those who stay.”
