BINI Receives Special Recognition At The Philippine Senate After Their Coachella Performance

BINI's global success is proving to be one for the books, not just for the new generation of Filipino talents, but for the entire Original Pilipino Music (OPM) industry. For this, the eight-member girl group—Aiah, Maloi, Jhoanna, Stacey, Gwen, Mikha, Sheena, and Colet—received a special recognition from the Philippine Senate for their historic performances at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on April 10 and 17, 2026.

Senator Bam Aquino filed Senate Resolution No. 370 recognizing the impact of Filipino artists and the importance of Filipino representation on the global stage, especially through the group’s use of traditional Filipino elements such as cultural costumes, Filipino-language music, and the salakot. 

The resolution further stated that this aligns with the State's policy to "support and develop the creative industries as drivers of innovation, employment, and inclusive growth."

"Sa gitna ng mga hamon na kinahaharap ng ating bansa, ang narating ng BINI ay tagumpay na dapat nating ipagdiwang. Isa itong salamin ng galing at potensyal ng Pilipino—patunay na kaya nating dalhin ang ating kwento sa buong mundo," the Senator shared.

"Ang kanilang tagumpay ay hindi lamang panalo para sa industriya ng musika, kundi para sa buong Pilipinas. Ipinapakita nito ang lumalaking potensyal ng ating creative economy at ang kakayahan nitong magbigay ng dangal at oportunidad sa ating mga kababayan," he added.

Senator Joel Villanueva co-sponsored the resolution, giving a special shoutout to BINI's milestones, especially their ability to stand alongside some of the biggest international artists on the charts.

"BINI ranked 3rd among the Top Coachella Artists based on Earned Media Value… Pagdating sa total online engagement, pumangalawa sila kay Justin Bieber isang tunay na 'Cherry on Top' sa makasaysayang pag-angat ng OPM at talentong Pilipino sa pandaigdigang entablado," he said during the plenary.

The session turned into a major fangirl moment, too. All eight members were present at the plenary, where senators personally congratulated them for their standout performances in California. Senators Risa Hontiveros and Loren Legarda even took time to welcome the girls and snap a few selfies with them because, honestly, who wouldn't?

"Ngayon, marami na ang tumitingin sa BINI hindi lamang bilang mga performer at musician, kundi bilang patunay na ang Pilipina ay kayang-kayang sumabak at umangat saan man siya sa mundo. 💜," Senator Risa wrote. 

Senator Francis Pangilinan also didn't miss the chance to recognize the group, even sharing an iconic story that referenced Sheena's viral "EYY" expression and how it has become part of today's pop culture vocabulary among the younger generation.

At this point, BINI's global rise is only getting bigger. Fans are already gearing up for another major international appearance as BINI is set to perform at the Summer Sonic 2026 music festival in Osaka and Tokyo this coming August. Filipino boy group SB19 is also part of the lineup.
