BINI Maloi Got Real About Her PCOS Journey And Why It's Not Just A "Normal" Condition

If there's one thing girlhood has taught us, it's the power of being together no matter what. It's about showing up, holding space, and reminding each other that we're never alone in this journey. And that's exactly what BINI Maloi felt and expressed through a recent interview, where she opened up about her health.

"Sa mga Blooms who gave kind and nice words to me, thank you so much for understanding. Parang feeling ko ang humanizing nya na naibukas yung topic na 'to which is very taboo, especially sa reproductive health ng women," Maloi said in an interview uploaded October 6, 2025.

Recently, Maloi disclosed in their documentary, BINI World Tour Stories, that she has been diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). It may not be a rare condition for most people nowadays, but to the 23-year-old P-pop idol, it has been one of her greatest fears.

"May lungkot din sa part ko and yun yung kailangan kong tanggapin, mas kailangan ko alagaan yung sarili ko," she expressed in the documentary. She also took the moment to remind women to prioritize themselves, and make time for regular medical check-ups. After all, self-care is also about protecting one's health, too.

In the recent interview, Maloi got real about how some people tend to brush off PCOS as something "normal" for women—a mindset she firmly disagreed with. She didn't hold back her emotions as she shared how important it is to acknowledge the condition and take women's health concerns seriously.

"Thank you sa mga umintindi talaga. Maraming nagsasabi na it's just normal, pero as someone na very sensitive, and as someone who feels deeply, isa talaga siya sa dinadamdam ko talaga," Maloi stated.

Despite the worries that came with her health diagnosis, Maloi draws strength from the support of her fans and loved ones. "Pero knowing na maraming Blooms ang nasa likod ko, and maraming nasa likod ko at maraming nagsusuporta sakin through this journey, I feel confident na mas alagaan pa yung sarili ko," she said.

Maloi concluded, "Sa mga Blooms and ladies na may PCOS din, take care of yourselves, and we can get through this."

At the moment, BINI is preparing for their year-end concert, BINIfied, at the Philippine Arena on November 29, 2025.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (a.k.a. PCOS) is a hormonal condition that affects many women of reproductive age—and it's way more complex than just "irregular periods" or "weight gain." It usually happens when your body becomes insulin-resistant—meaning it doesn't use insulin (the hormone that helps control blood sugar) as effectively as it should.

Here's the deal: A normal cell has about 120,000 insulin receptors that help sugar enter and get burned for energy. But for women with PCOS, there are only around 5,000 receptors. That means less sugar gets metabolized, and all that excess sugar has to go somewhere.

Your liver ends up converting it into fat, while your pancreas pumps out even more insulin to compensate. This chain reaction causes your ovaries to produce higher levels of testosterone, which can lead to common PCOS symptoms like acne and unwanted facial hair.
