Caitlyn Jenner received the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the 2015 Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly Awards (ESPY). This special honor is given to those who have contributed to society—and it doesn't have to be limited to sports.
The former Olympic athlete and reality TV star helped raise awareness about the trans community when she decided to come out and undergo a sex change this year.
"Trans people deserve something vital. They deserve your respect. And from that respect comes a more compassionate community. A more empathetic society and a better world for all of us.
"I want to acknowledge all the young trans athletes out there, given the chance to play sports as who they really are. Now, as of this week, it appears that trans people will soon be serving the military.
"We've come a long way, but we have a lot of work to do."
All of Caitlyn’s children and step-children were present at the ceremony to support their father.
