“I was disrespected. I was betrayed. I was lied to. I was used. I was shamed. I was made to look so stupid,” Carla Abellana says in her statement as she finally breaks her silence on her separation from her estranged husband Tom Rodriguez.
In a lengthy YouTube statement, she painfully recounted the pain she endured for seven years at the hands of her longtime partner and fellow Kapuso star, even hinting at having experienced domestic abuse.
Her statement comes after being cornered by a netizen, who criticized her for liking Ai-Ai Delas’ cheating-related post. “Bakit?
Pushing the issue further, the netizen didn’t stop there, sharing her unsolicited advice on Carla and Tom’s separation and pointing out how the actress could’ve better handled the issue.
Provoked by the netizen's remarks, Carla finally spoke up, revealing her side of the story.
“I was disrespected. I was betrayed. I was lied to. I was used. I was shamed. I was made to look so stupid. Kung sana hanggang dun lang po makakabangon din po ako balang araw,” she stated, saying that made-up stories spread about her and her family were what made things even worse.
According to Carla, she gave nothing but love to her longtime beau.
During the duration of their seven-year relationship, she revealed that she has been repressed with her actions, for fear that Tom might do something to hurt her.
She also shared that she even advised Tom to seek help from a therapist regarding his behavior, but the actor refused to heed her advice. Despite everything, she chose to marry him.
In the end, Carla emphasizes that she’s not a bad person, and that everyone should be mindful of what they see online.
