Carlos Yulo and Chloe San Jose Reveal Their Secret Engagement—Here's Why He Proposed With Two Rings

Carlos Yulo and Chloe San Jose have another major milestone to celebrate—and this time, it comes with not one, but two rings.

Fresh from a double-gold finish at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Carlos and Chloe announced their engagement on September 28. But surprise: the proposal wasn't quite as recent as the reveal. The longtime couple had actually been secretly engaged for nine months, with Carlos popping the question on December 18, 2025.

"Nine months ago… she said yes," Carlos shared in his latest Instagram post, before calling himself "truly blessed" to love Chloe, be loved by her, and now call her his fiancée. He also promised to love, care for, and protect her through life's highs and hurdles as they head toward forever together.

Chloe, meanwhile, marked the milestone with her own moving message, calling the engagement their "little secret" since December. Looking back at the six years that took them from Instagram messages to international competitions, she reflected on a relationship built between airports, training days, travels, and triumphs.

"Mahal ko, I would choose you in every lifetime," Chloe wrote. "And now, we get to choose each other for the rest of this one."

Of course, Caloy couldn't settle for a single sparkler.

During the December 2025 proposal, Carlos first got down on one knee with a white-gold ring featuring a large oval-cut, aquamarine-colored center stone surrounded by a diamond halo. After Chloe said yes, he knelt again and surprised her with a second ring—this time featuring a heart-shaped yellow center stone, also framed by diamonds.

There's a sentimental reason behind the double diamonds.

In their proposal video, Carlos explained that Chloe had helped him on the journey toward his two historic Olympic gold medals at Paris 2024. "Para sa akin, siya 'yung gold medal ng puso ko," he said, explaining why he wanted to give his fiancée two engagement rings. 

It's an especially sweet full-circle moment for longtime followers of the couple. Back in Paris 2024, Chloe was also there to celebrate as Carlos clinched his first Olympic gold, watching him win the men's floor exercise in August 2024.

Two years later, Chloe was once again celebrating Carlos, this time at the 2026 Asian Games. After he won gold in the men's floor exercise on September 24 and the vault final the following day, she shared photos celebrating his double-gold finish.

When Carlos returned home, Chloe and their loved ones prepared a surprise salubong for the Yulo brothers. The next day, the couple finally revealed another milestone they'd been keeping private: their engagement.

Long before the medals, marriage plans, and matching milestones, there was a DM.

As Carlos and Chloe previously told Cosmo in their February 2025 cover story, Chloe first messaged the gymnast on Instagram in 2020. Their messages moved to calls and video calls, and the two officially became a couple in June that year—even while distance kept them physically apart.

They finally met in person in 2022, when Chloe traveled to Vietnam during the postponed 2021 SEA Games. From there, competitions became a constant part of their couple story, with Chloe regularly joining Carlos through the pressures and peaks of his gymnastics career.

Ahead of Paris 2024, Chloe even deferred a semester of her Psychological Sciences studies in Australia after Carlos asked her to accompany him through his training camps and competitions. She helped plan his Olympic preparation, while Carlos later told Cosmo that he wanted to support Chloe's own goals in return.

Their relationship also became the subject of a very public family conflict. In 2024, Carlos's mother, Angelica Yulo, publicly criticized Chloe and raised issues surrounding their relationship, while Carlos defended Chloe and addressed the family dispute publicly.

Marriage, meanwhile, had been making its way into their conversations for quite some time. When Cosmo asked Carlos about wedding bells back in February 2025, his answer was cheekily concise: "secret."

Turns out, he wasn't kidding about the secret part!

Carlos began seriously planning the proposal in the latter part of 2025 and eventually asked Chloe to marry him on December 18. The pair then entered 2026 as a privately engaged couple, even as they continued sharing pieces of their partnership publicly. (That includes Chloe's short Korean-language course at Korea University early this year, which Carlos experienced alongside her.)

When the couple spoke publicly about marriage and proposal plans earlier in September, they had already been engaged for months. So yes, while everyone else was waiting for the ring reveal, they'd already been engaged for nine months!

Now, after six years of distance, devotion, dreams, and double-gold days, there's one more milestone waiting beyond the medals.

From "Hi, I'm a fan po" to "Will you marry me?"—Carlos and Chloe are officially headed for their forever.
