Carlos Yulo Explains Why He Doesn't Want His Parents At His Future Wedding To Chloe San Jose

Love fills the air whenever Carlos Yulo and his girlfriend Chloe San Jose are around, and six years into their relationship, the couple admits they really see each other as their endgame. 

In an interview with Karen Davila uploaded on September 10, the two-time Olympic gold medalist revealed that he and his longtime girlfriend have been open to each other and have already talked about their future—including getting married. 

"Napag-uusapan po namin. We're really open po, like, kahit anong usapang mag-partner or mag-asawa siguro, napag-usapan na namin yung mga malalalim at mahihirap na topics. So, yung mga gano'n po like kasal, engagement, and yung pagtayo ng family, napag-uusapan po namin. And we have really good communication," he shared.

And since wedding ceremonies are a big part of couples' lives, Carlos was asked if he was planning to have a big event—and whether he would want his parents to be there.

"Kasal po namin yun, and…kami po, relationship po namin. And, mas pipiliin kong kami na lang…Ayoko din masira yung moment namin, para sa'min dapat dalawa. Ayoko yung…mamantsahan pa," Carlos explained, saying he would prefer an intimate wedding for just the two of them.

Carlos added that he had already forgiven his parents for the things that happened, but said he wanted the wedding to remain just about him and Chloe. He said, "Madami na silang ginawa na pinatawad ko na, and hanggang dun na lang din po."

Chloe also agreed with this, saying that she respects whatever decision Carlos is comfortable with should the time come. "Well, of course they're your parents…I think what he's comfortable with, [then] that would be what I'm comfortable with."

For a quick refresher, after Carlos won two Olympic gold medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics, his family relationship also became a hot topic.

During that period Carlos and his mother, Angelica Yulo, publicly addressed a dispute over his competition incentives and prize earnings. She also voiced her reservations about his relationship with Chloe. Carlos eventually addressed the issue himself, alleging that his mother had access to his bank accounts and had withdrawn money without his knowledge or consent.

Despite this familial rift, Carlos and Chloe have remained strong together. In the interview with Karen, Chloe revealed that Carlos had actually secretly planned to propose many times—but she always ended up catching him. (LOL!)

Chloe shared, "2024 or 2023 po we went to Hong Kong…He tried po. So, he tried to look at the ring. But then he had to sign up po kasi, kasi he needs to order the ring. So then he had to sign up [for] the newsletter or the email notification, but I had his email…so then I saw that he was inquiring [about] a ring."

But Carlos made another plan when they were in Japan a few months after his first attempt.

Carlos explained, "I tried looking [for a ring] sa Singapore kasi may competition kami. Then, bumalik po ako sa Japan. Tinry ko din." But after all these memorable experiences for the couple, the two confirmed that Carlos has yet to officially pop the question—and yep, that's definitely something we'll be keeping an eye out for.
