Following the recent success of My Perfect You, Cathy Garcia-Molina unwittingly became the subject of fan outrage after an exchange via social media with a JaDine fan.
The 46-year-old box office director responded to a tweet requesting for a movie collaboration between her and the love team of James Reid and Nadine Lustre before she retires in 2019. In a now-deleted tweet, user @Pumpkin021116 said, "Sana po direk @cgm1326 sa huling movie mo sana Jadine ang kunin niyo, magaling po @ napaka-professional. Natapos mo ang KN (Kathniel), LQ (LizQuen), sana JD n nman."
Direk Cathy then responded, "Iha talaga ba? Iba kasi Ang naririnig ko galing mismo k direk Dan V at direk Tonet. Sorry."
The exchange continued with the fan asking more about what Cathy heard from her industry friends, directors Dan Villegas and Antoinette Jadaone, who had been vocal about frustrations involving the delays in the shooting of the upcoming JaDine movie Never Not Love You. In a blog post published in January, Antoinette wrote, "Filming for [Never Not Love You] is becoming erratic. Sayang, andun na ang momentum eh. More and more shooting days canceled—some reasons more heartbreaking than others, so heartbreaking they make me cry."
Upon realizing that the comments she made might incite unwanted debate and attention, she requested to move the conversation privately.
Other Twitter users then jumped into the conversation and it was only a matter of time when fans started to get personal with the director and aired out her past controversies.
Later on, direk Cathy apologized to Dan and Antoinette for getting dragged into her Twitter "booboo."
Direk Cathy's My Perfect You is still showing nationwide and has reportedly earned P10 million on its opening day. Meanwhile, Never Not Love You, starring James and Nadine, will premiere on March 31.
