Being a breadwinner comes with its challenges, but Charlie Fleming admits it's one of the most rewarding roles she's ever had—especially when it comes to supporting her older brother, who she's currently putting through high school.
"It feels really good knowing that I can provide for my family," Charlie shared on Fast Talk with Boy Abunda on March 30. The satisfaction comes from more than just helping with the bills. Her brother, who was on the Dean's List last quarter, is about to graduate, and Charlie couldn’t be prouder. "It feels good knowing that he's reaching what he wants, he's in the course that he wants, and he's really working hard."
Charlie sometimes catches her brother waking up as early as 3 a.m. to study for his exams, and it fills her with pride to see him putting in the effort for himself. Watching him take responsibility for his own growth gives her a sense of fulfillment that money alone can't buy.

Even with the responsibility of being the family breadwinner, Charlie keeps things balanced. She describes her brother as smart and introverted, so micromanaging his life is out of the question.
She usually encourages him to make friends and experiment with different styles, but there's one condition she sets: do well in school. "Just try your best sa school, and that's okay with me na," she says, showing that support and gentle guidance doesn't have to feel like pressure.
At the age of 16, Charlie joined Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Collab Edition, where she was given the nickname "Bubbly Bread-Teener ng Cagayan de Oro" and placed third in the season alongside her duo partner Esnyr. That same bubbly charm clearly carries off-screen, showing in the way she supports her family while carving out her own path in the entertainment industry.
She's making sure her presence sticks without burning out. "Even small posts and TikTok trends really do work. If you're constantly seen online and doing your best in shows, it sticks with people. I hope to keep building these small things in my career," she said. It's a mix of balancing family responsibilities with professional growth, all while keeping her signature sparkle intact.
Charlie's fellow PBB housemate Shuvee Etrata, who also appeared on the episode, shared a similar journey as a breadwinner. She revealed that she often put her family's needs before her own, sometimes going without just to make sure her siblings were okay. "Bahala na wala akong makain basta sila meron makain," Shuvee admitted.
While Charlie focuses mostly on encouraging her brother academically, Shuvee emphasized setting boundaries to ensure her family's overall well-being, saying, "I'm very strict as an Ate. As much as possible, gusto ko guided sila, [na] hindi sila lumaking walang natatanungan, walang mahingian." Different approaches, same goal.

When the question came up about a timeline for being the family's breadwinner, both shared a similar answer. Charlie shrugged off the idea entirely, making it clear that there really isn't one: "Proud na ako basta stable sila."
Charlie and Shuvee are set to co-star in the upcoming movie Huwag Kang Titingin, which comes out on April 15, and in the series Master Cutter.
