Disney finally announced the names of the lead actors who will star in the live action remake of Aladdin. The announcement was made in the recent D23 Expo at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California.
Mena Massoud, who plays Tarek Kassar in the Jack Ryan TV series, has snagged the titular role. Naomi Scott, who played Pink Ranger in the recent Power Rangers movie and is a singer herself, has been cast as Princess Jasmine. Will Smith will play the scene-stealing Genie.
JD Knapp of Variety notes: "The original animated movie was a comic take on the Arabian folk tale of a young man granted three wishes by a genie trapped in a lamp. Aladdin was the highest-grossing film of the year in 1992, and won Academy Awards for best score and best song for 'A Whole New World.'"
