SM Entertainment said that his bride-to-be is a non-celebrity and that the marriage will be held privately with only their families in attendance.
The statement added, “To respect their families’ opinions, the wedding and everything related to it will be held privately, so we ask fans and reporters for their kind understanding.”
Meanwhile, Chen penned a handwritten letter addressed to his fans as he talked about his marriage and the “blessing” that he and his fiance have received, HelloKPop reported.
Chen wrote, “I am writing this because I have something to tell our fans. I don’t know how to start this, and I’m very nervous. Although these words might not be much, I’m writing this because I want to tell this news to our fans who gave us so much love first with all honesty.”
The K-pop idol then shared that he has “a girlfriend whom I want to spend the rest of my life with” and that “a blessing then came to us.”
In the letter, Chen also thanked his EXO group mates for congratulating him on the news and he also sends his love to the fans for sending him some love.
EXO-Ls did send their love to Chen on Twitter:
On the other hand, some fans were angry with Chen's announcement as a petition is going around to remove Chen from EXO. However, some EXO-Ls have kindly asked other fans to support Chen's decision:
