Female-Centric Films To Watch At The Pista Ng Pelikulang Pilipino

Yay, keep the good films coming! Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino, now in its second year, will run from August 15 to 21. The festival lineup includes Unli Life, Bakwit Boys, Signal Rock, and Madilim ang GabiWhat makes us so excited is that a lot of the entries are focusing on women! Here are four films that show different types of females and their stories: 

Ang Babaeng Allergic Sa Wifi

It stars: Sue Ramirez, Jameson Blake, and Markus Paterson 

Why watch it? At one point or another, we've all wanted to take a break from social media. But what happens when you actually can't go online because doing so makes you sick? Norma (Sue) experiences hypersensitivity to electromagnetic radiation from WiFi signals. As a result, she has to stay in the province, hours away from the city, pushing her to reevaluate her relationships with her boyfriend (Markus) and his brother (Jameson).

Pinay Beauty (She's No White) 

It stars: Chai FonacierEdgar Allan Guzman, and Maxine Medina 

Why watch it? Sure, we've all wanted to change something about our physical appearance. Maybe you want a different nose, different lips, even a more defined jawline. Pinay Beauty tells the relatable story of Annie (Chai), who dreams of having more "Western" features. Her boyfriend Migs (Edgar Allan) does everything in his power to help her achieve that dream.

It stars: Bela Padilla and JC Santos

Why watch it? Ready for some (secondhand) heartache? This new film from the director of 100 Tula Para Kay Stella promises to be as heart-wrenching as possible. Lani (Bela) or "Ms. Repairman" tries to help broken and self-destructive Kai (JC) and ultimately falls for him. The question is, will he love her back?

We Will Not Die Tonight

It stars: Erich Gonzales

Why watch it? We're looking forward to the fight scenes! This film tells the story of Kray (Erich) who works as a stuntwoman and stand-in for meager pay. When an opportunity for quick easy money to run drugs for a gang comes her way, Kray grabs it, only to find out that the gang wants them to kidnap children from the streets in order to harvest their organs.
