Newlyweds Maxene Magalona and Rob Mananquil recently sat down with Korina Sanchez for Rated K to talk about their relationship. In the show's Valentine's Day special, the two shared the journey of how their relationship blossomed into marriage.
In the interview, Maxene revealed how a random social media post about Indian mangoes and spicy bagoong led to their long online friendship. The kilig did not stop there and was, of course, followed up by Rob inviting Maxx to a coffee date. He said, "I said to myself, if I'm going to ask her out on a date, I want it to be coffee because I want to be awake with her."
After deliberating three different outfits to wear for their date and interacting with him for the first time, Maxene said, "I texted my sister and said, 'I think mahal ko na siya.'"
Interestingly, Maxene believes that her late father Francis Magalona continues to guide her in life through lights. She said, "Minsan, pumuputok 'yung ilaw 'pag may hindi siya gusto. And then minsan, nagfi-flicker kapag masaya siya."
This then served as an inspiration for Rob's proposal, which took place a year ago in a wonderfully lit spot at the Tokyo Dome in Japan.
Rob, like Maxene's father, is a musician. In fact, the first time the two laid eyes on each other was in a concert where Rob's band was playing. According to Maxene, it was her husband's passion that got her interested to meet and get to know him. Who would've thought this would lead to them tying the knot?
