This 25-Year-Old Gave 'Game Of Thrones' An Epic 'Ang Probinsyano' Twist

Aka if 'GoT' were made in the Philippines.

WARNING: Game of Thrones season seven finale spoilers ahead!

Everyone who's watched the season seven finale episode of Game of Thrones last week (which is honestly like 90 percent of your Facebook feed) knows this huge confrontation scene between Cersei and Jaime Lannister. It was finally the moment Jaime defied his queen-slash-twin-slash-lover Cersei and left King's Landing to join the fight against the White Walkers.

The major TV moment makes for a great fantasy plot twist, but an even better dramatic teleserye breakup scene. This is what 25-year-old esports producer Calvin Callangan thought of as well when he created his now-viral parody video, Laro ng Trono.

The intense facial zoom-ins and swelling music—Gary Valenciano's "I'll Never Love This Way Again," to be specific—during their confrontation reminded us of today's biggest soap opera: the long-running action drama series FPJ's Ang Probinsyano.

With over 10k shares on Facebook, Calvin's video was all over our feed the past few days, so we spoke to him to ask why he made a GoT/Ang Probinsyano parody video:

What made you create a video of the Jaime-Cersei scene of the GoT finale? You must be a fan of the series.

"I'm a huge fan of the series! The idea sparked when I watched a video that went viral after the season six finale—I don't remember the title—but this specific video gave birth to the "kung wala ka nang maintindihan" meme. I wanted to do something similar but couldn't find that right scene, until just recently while watching the season seven finale."

Your video really gave off Ang Probinsyano vibes. Would you describe your video as a parody of GoT/local teleseryes or did you make it just 'cause you're a GoT fanboy?

"I would say both! I honestly don't really watch our local teleseryes but there was this one time while my friends and I were eating in a place near our studio and Ang Probinsyano was on. Having an eye for cinematography, I immediately noticed the weird zoom-ins when the subjects were worried or furious at each other. That's where I got the idea from."

Is that why you also chose to include Gary V in your vid?

"I originally planned to put the "kung wala ka nang maintindihan" song in the vid but I thought that meme's dead and played out sooo many times already. So, I went on and chose the next best thing! I searched for "Gary V songs" on YouTube and got what I thought was the perfect song for the video."

Who's your favorite GoT character?

"Most people would go for Jon Snow, Tyrion Lannister, or Dany—weirdly enough my fave is and always will be The Hound, and my friends can attest to that."

How do you feel about the internet's response to your video?

"I'm honestly surprised! The response had been so overwhelming. I thought just a few friends of mine would laugh about it, [but I] didn't really expect it to blow up. But it's an awesome feeling to have made a lot of people laugh! Plus, I get random messages of appreciation and interviews like this once in a while, too! Cool di ba. Hahaha!"

Can we expect more videos from you—about GoT or anything else?

"I have a few ideas planned out already but no promises 'cause work will keep me busy in the upcoming weeks. But I'll make time for more vids for sure. And yes, they'll be both GoT and other series/movies perhaps. I'll feel pressured to follow up this first video's success though."

Did you study making films or is this a hobby for you?

"Video editing has and will always be a passion of mine and, nope, I didn't go to film school. It's just something I really love... And yeah, a Hound video would be nice!"
