OMG, Hilary Duff Spills All About Her Childhood Feud With Lindsay Lohan

Published on Feb 26, 2026
Hilary Duff is spilling some major tea from the early 2000s—and unpacking the "lore" every millennial (and perhaps older Gen Zs) grew up hearing about. On the February 25 episode of Alex Cooper's Call Her Daddy podcast, the actress-singer opened up about her longtime "childhood feud" with fellow Disney alum Lindsay Lohan.
Yes, the rumors are true: Hilary did crash the 2003 premiere of Lindsay's movie Freaky Friday. When Alex asked if it was on purpose, Hilary admitted, "Absolutely yes. I was a teenager!"
But, she had a pretty legit excuse for showing up that wasn't just teen drama. Chad Michael Murray—who starred alongside both Hilary and Lindsay in different projects—actually invited her. "He was like, 'You should come with me,' and I was like, 'Mm-hmm. Probably I should,'" Hilary added. She estimates she was around 15 or 16 at the time.
Lindsay returned the favor a few months later by showing up at the premiere of Cheaper by the Dozen, where Hilary was starring. "That was like my childhood feud… my nemesis," Hilary said. "Now it's so many years later, like who cares? It does not matter."

Hilary Duff And Lindsay Lohan's Childhood Feud
So, how did these two teen queens end up having beef in the first place? It all started with the late Aaron Carter. The pop star briefly dated both Hilary and Lindsay in the early 2000s, giving gossip mags and teen blogs the ultimate love triangle to obsess over. "There was no social media to be like, 'Who's dating who,' so you just take people's word for it," Hilary told Alex.
Hilary and Aaron were basically the celebrity version of high school sweethearts, dating for nearly two years before he started spending time with Lindsay.
Looking back, Hilary can't help but laugh at the whole mess. "If you're like Lindsay Lohan or me… he's probably dating both of us, you know what I mean?" she joked, because in teen Hollywood, even the smallest move could turn into a headline—especially when you're young, awkward, and everyone's got a camera in your face.
How Hilary Duff And Lindsay Lohan Finally Resolved Their Childhood Feud
Luckily, the feud didn't last forever. By 2007, things had cooled down, and Lindsay reportedly supported Hilary at her Dignity album release party. But Hilary confirms the real peace-making moment came in classic girlhood fashion: a night out with some drinks.
Lindsay walked up to her at a club and asked if they were all good. Hilary nodded and said they were, and all that old tension felt like ancient history. "[Lindsay] was like, 'Let's take a shot.' I was like, 'OK,'" Hilary recalled.
And just like that, the childhood feud between these teen It girls is so yesterday (bonus points if you catch the reference 🙋🏻♀️).
