Iya Villania-Arellano didn't think Drew Arellano's vasectomy was a big deal—at least, not at first.
She revealed this in a fun and exclusive chat with Cosmopolitan Philippines at Smart Parenting's Mother's Day Fair on May 11, 2025. The TV personality couple had just welcomed their fifth—and final—child in February. A few months later, Drew announced that his Mother's Day gift to Iya was getting a vasectomy.
It's not something we often see from celebrity couples. But on April 28, Drew proudly shared the news with the world. Iya's response? We caught it on camera—LOL. "Well, first and foremost, nakakatawa na naging national news siya," she told Cosmo with a laugh.
Admittedly, it wasn't a big deal for Iya—at first. She shared that they had always been open about one of them getting their tubes tied after baby number five. "But thanks to you guys, I actually gained a greater appreciation for what he had done, because we both didn't really think much of it until it became a big deal to everybody," Iya said.
It was only after Drew’s post gained traction—and praise for what he'd done—that it really hit Iya.
"And then I realized, you know what, I guess it was a big deal because in doing that, he spared me from a lot of things," she said.
Iya explained further, "Really—Drew and I are open to, I get tied or he gets tied. So, 'yung usapan namin, if I get a CS [C-section delivery] while I'm there, I might as well get tied. Pero kung hindi, if I go for normal [delivery], siya 'yung magpapatali. That's why it wasn't that much of a deal. Thanks guys, dahil sa inyo, I appreciated what Drew did more."

Drew Arellano's Recovery After His Vasectomy
It's been about two weeks since Drew got his vasectomy—and another confession Iya shared with Cosmo is that they slightly underestimated the recovery process.
"In terms of recovery, we underestimated it. We thought it would be much easier. But ganon pala 'yun. I guess para pala siyang CS na panglalaki," Iya said with a laugh.
She shared that Drew experienced some discomfort and weeks of limited movement. "So, siguro there was discomfort for a few days. One week hindi siya naka-work out. Then after a week, he tried running. But yeah, until now—he's probably on his second week already—may konting kirot pa siyang nararamdaman. So that's how recovery has been."
As for side effects? Iya didn't mention any during our chat, but she did note one important thing about Drew's post-vasectomy journey: It's still functional.
"According to him, functional pa rin naman," Iya said, before bursting into laughter again.
