Viewers of the talent search program Idol Philippines couldn't help but react to a particular hopeful's audition, after he failed to qualify for the next round.
In the May 12 episode, Luke Baylon sang a reggae rendition of Alicia Keys' "If I Ain't Got You," to which three out of the four judges voted 'no.'
ICYDK, the judges are Regine Velasquez, Vice Ganda, Moira dela Torre, and James Reid.
James: "Actually, I loved your rendition. It was really fun. I've never heard it like that before. You have a voice, and you can sing. It's just lacking a bit, like hitting the notes and the timing."
Moira: "I like your range. Favorite ko kasi 'yung reggae tapos ang lalim. Pero may kulang e."
Vice: "Hindi gaanong kalakas 'yung dating sa 'kin e, alam mo 'yon. It's not extra special."
Regine: "Ako actually I enjoyed it. It wasn't [a] very clean performance, may mga flats, may mga sharp. I did like your falsetto, it was very clean. I didn't care for the pagkadumi ng performance kasi it's reggae. Kasi 'di ba 'yung reggae ganun lang siya, even if you're singing a particular song, parang you're speaking lang. Ganun siya binibitawan."
Only Regine Velasquez voted 'yes' for Luke, because she liked him and said that she would like to see him improve.
A number of netizens reacted online, criticizing James, Moira, and Vice for their decision and questioning their singing credentials.
James took to Twitter to react and explain his decision, reiterating his positive comments on the audition and wishing Luke the best in his career.
He also voiced out how challenging their job is as judges, to "crush people's dreams in front of them."
