Janine Gutierrez And Benjamin Alves' Film 'Dagsin' Has Been Shortlisted For The Oscars

It could just be the country's official entry!

Janine Gutierrez couldn't be prouder that her movie with Benjamin Alves, Dagsin, has been shortlisted as a possible pick of the Philippines for the Oscars' International Feature Film category. 

The GMA-7 actress took to Instagram to share a screenshot of a headline from an American entertainment website, talking about the possibility for Dagsin.

"Don't really post articles but [this is a] proud little moment for our @cinemalaya film to be in the running and to be featured here," the Kapuso actress shared. "I'm behind whoever gets chosen. GO PHILIPPINES!!"

Dagsin, starring Janine, Benjamin, Tommy Abuel, and Lotlot de Leon, is the story of Justino, who survives the Death March, Martial Law, and an ambush. When his wife Corazon passes away, he goes through her diaries to rediscover their past.

Dagsin, directed by Atom Magadia, has won several awards, including Best Narrative Feature in The World's International Film Festival 2017, Centerpiece Film in the Guam International Film Festival 2017, and Best Heritage Film in the Urduja Heritage Awards. 

The official Facebook page of Dagsin clarified that the movie has yet to become an official entry to the Oscars' International Film Feature category. A local screening panel approved by the Oscars is considering the movie as an entry. Their deadline is on October 1, 2019.

Janine is set to star in a romantic comedy with Paulo Avelino, If We Don't Make It, about lovers who have unfinished business.
