A legend—that's how the world will remember Pilita Corrales. But for Janine Gutierrez, her granddaughter, she will be remembered most for her heart: her kindness, generosity, and love for her family. For those who may not know, Pilita is the mother of actors Jackie Lou Blanco and Ramon Christopher Gutierrez, with Ramon being Janine's father.
Janine confirmed her grandmother's passing on April 12 through a heartfelt post on social media. Pilita, known as Asia's Queen of Songs, left an indelible mark on the music industry. She was 85.
"It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved mami and mamita, Pilita Corrales," Janine said on Instagram.
"Pilita touched the lives of many, not only with her songs but also with her kindness and generosity. She will be remembered for her contributions to the entertainment industry, but most of all for her love of life and family," she remarked.

The family did not disclose the cause of death, but Janine asked for the public's prayers and warm thoughts as they celebrate the beautiful life Pilita has lived.
"Further details regarding memorial services will be shared soon," she added.

Janine Gutierrez Remembers Grandmother Pilita Corrales
Janine and Pilita shared a close, joyful bond—the kind many can only dream of having with their own grandmothers. To Janine, Pilita was more than an icon; she was a role model, admired not just for her glamor but for the way she carried herself with grace, confidence, and love.
Janine fondly recalls spending much of her childhood in her "Mamita's" walk-in closet, slipping into PVC heels and hiding behind sequined gowns. It was in these playful moments that their warm, spirited relationship was built.
Even in a 2022 YouTube video where Janine raided Pilita’s closet, their dynamic shone through. They weren't just family—they were best friends, always hyping each other up.
"When I got big enough to fit into her clothes, everytime I would visit, she'd give me handfuls. Lahat naman daw bagay sakin. Yes, biased talaga siya. She also thinks I sing well, which confirms her bias," Janine said.
"I love her so much and feel so lucky to have her in my life. She's been the most generous person, even to this day agreeing to do stupid vlogs with me," she added.
More than just admiring her grandmother, Janine has also taken steps to help honor and preserve Pilita's contributions to Filipino music and culture. Last year, she proudly shared that she's one of the producers of an upcoming documentary about Pilita. "I've always felt a deep responsibility to help preserve Mamita's amazing legacy," Janine shared.
"I hope this project becomes another way for younger generations to learn about her story—not just as a legendary performer, but as a woman who defied expectations and truly paved the way," she added.
Pilita's legacy, both personal and cultural, was felt far beyond her immediate family. Jericho Rosales, who is currently dating Janine, also paid tribute to the late singer on Instagram. Alongside a photo of Pilita and a touching home video of her singing (with Janine seen in the background), he wrote: "[three white hearts] and big hugs to the family of a legend and most beloved singer of my mother. Her songs went beyond memory. It was a great honor to have met her. Maraming-maraming salamat po. #pilitacorrales" On the post, Janine commented a simple but sweet, "Thank you ba [white heary emoji".
Rest in peace, Pilita Corrales—a true legend whose music and memory will live on.
