Jason Abalos has shared his thoughts on the retirement of his girlfriend Vickie Rushton from beauty pageants.

During an online press conference on July 2, Friday, for his movie Silab, Jason shared how he feels that it is now time for him and Vickie to finally focus on their relationship, now that she is no longer busy with her pageant activities.

"Matagal na kong naghihintay na matapos si Vickie sa pagpa-pageant. Tingin ko 'yon na 'yon, e. Sabi ko, 'O tama na yan, hindi ka na pwede, tayo naman.'"

Jason also noted that he feels he and Vickie, who have been together since 2010, should already start a family.

"Kasi hinayaan ko siya talagang lumarga, gawin niya lahat ng gusto niya habang dalaga pa siya, so ngayon siguro panahon na para bumuo ng pamilya."

In June 2021, Vickie announced that she would be ending her pageant journey. She's been joining beauty pageants since 2009, winning the title of Mutya Ng Pilipinas in 2011 and participating in Binibining Pilipinas for three years. Vickie was supposed to try a third time in Binibining Pilipinas 2020—the coronation night of which was supposed to take place in May 2020—but due to the pandemic, the pageant was postponed indefinitely.

While Vickie did not mention the specific reason for her retirement, she turned 29 in May 2021, which puts her over the age limit for Miss International 2021, the pageant the Binibining Pilipinas 2020 winner will compete in.

"As much as I don't want to, I need to close this chapter in my life. I thought I was okay, but today, I realized that I might not be as okay as I thought I was. It finally sunk in that I am no longer part of it. Today, I found myself crying because I am still not ready to let go of this dream, but I know I have to and I know God has better plans."
