Julia Montes Wants Her "Original Love Team" With Kathryn Bernardo Back Onscreen

Real-life couple Julia Montes and Coco Martin recently sat down with Julius Babao for an exclusive interview, where they opened up about where they are now. But Julia had one particularly sweet throwback to share: her longtime friendship and former onscreen partnership with Kathryn Bernardo.

ICYDK, Julia and Kathryn first officially starred together as a tandem in the drama series Mara Clara back in 2010. Looking back at all the projects they did together, Julia jokingly called Kathryn her "ultimate love team."

"Kasi nag-movie kami, nag-teleserye, tapos nagkaroon din po kami ng teen show, plus isa pang teen show na series naman po," she recalled working with Kathryn. But of course, their story goes way back before Mara Clara. Julia and Kathryn first met as child actors on the beloved Philippine television comedy sketch Goin' Bulilit, where they naturally became childhood friends, too.

For Julia, her friendship with Kathryn remains extra special because she considers it one of the genuine friendships she found in showbiz. And Coco even added that the two are best friends!

"Ito po siguro yung panahon na nae-experience ko sa buhay na nagkaron ka ng totoong kaibigan sa showbiz. Kasi nung panahon po na yon, syempre lagi kaming pinagbabangga diba po, dahil Mara Clara, pero never talagang pumasok samin yon. Lagi kaming parang magkapatid," Julia shared.

She also appreciated how warmly Kathryn's family treated her throughout those years. Julia specifically recalled Kathryn's mom, Luzviminda Bernardo, and how she made her feel like part of the family. "Si Tita Min, kung ituring ako, para 'kong anak. Kumbaga talagang parang nagkaroon kami ng instant family within sa mga trabahong ginagawa po namin," she added.

Mara Clara became their last project as a tandem. But even after all these years, Julia still admires Kathryn as both a friend and an actress, and she's definitely open to working with her again.

"Nako, pag nagkikita nga po kami, sinasabi nga namin, 'Ano, original love team?' Ano ba, pa'no ba?' Sana po magkaroon ng magandang opportunity tsaka magandang project para magsama kami ulit," Julia shared, expressing that she sees it as a "dream project." Imagine the reunion! 😭

Both Julia and Kathryn have since grown into established actresses and have been busy with their own projects. Julia is currently working with Coco on their action series Sigabo, which first premiered in June 2026. Meanwhile, Kathryn recently partnered with James Reid for their romantic thriller series Someone, Someday, which was also released this year in July.

But despite the years passing and the two not getting to see each other as often as they used to, Julia says their friendship still feels the same whenever they reconnect. "Busy na rin po sa ibang mga trabaho pero pag po may opportunity, nakakapag-usap naman kami. Saka pag nagkikita kami, parang 'parang kailan lang,'" she said, proving that some friendships really do pick up right where they left off.
