According to the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino, we should start using "Filipinas" instead of  the word "Pilipinas" to "promote the country's official and modern name which reflects its history and development as a nation.” National artist Virgilio Almario, who has been pushing for the use of "Filipinas," says that using many variations just leads to national confusion. “Hindi  tayo magkaisa kahit sa pagtawag himang sa ating sarili (We fail to unite even in what to call ourselves),” he says.  (Yahoo!)
